Chp. 6 - how to get into Flow State (no matter what)
Flow State is friggin awesome. It feels good. You’re having fun. Time disappears. You feel in control without having to be in control. Maybe you’re driving, maybe organizing, maybe dancing, maybe playing sports, reading an incredible book, adventuring, researching, problem solving. No matter what it is, you’re having a blast. No self doubt. No worries. Just you and the task. You glide effortlessly.
Ever wish all of life could be this way? Well, it can. Eventually. It requires an entire breakdown of the life that doesn’t feel like this, and a restructuring and building of a life entirely built around YOUR needs, wants and desires. Because when your life is structured this way, it feels easy, effortless, and you glide from one task to another -whether for pleasure or for responsibility. It’s all oriented towards YOU.
But, okay, most of us aren’t there. But there IS a way you can start intentionally tapping into Flow State. And once you do, it’s addictive. It feels like living the life you were always meant to live. Because it is. And it gives you the motivation to restructure anything that doesn’t feel like this.
So to start, you can start paying attention to the 3 Internal Triggers of Flow State. And the 3 External Triggers. If you know what it takes to biochemically trigger this state in your body, you can restructure your everyday tasks to put you into a state of Flow. It’s all just energy management. Re-structuring your tasks and environment to Flow for YOU. So no matter what you’re doing - driving or cleaning or playing games, it all feels like a fun high.
“Winning” at life isn’t really about the end state successes. Those are momentary and fleeting. It’s about: did you live your life in a way that felt aligned and happy to you more often than not?
At the end of your life, did you have more experiences and emotions in the “happy and fulfilling” pile? Or in the “unhappy and dissatisfied” pile? Flipping into this perspective will allow you to get crystal clear on what brings you fulfillment and what doesn’t.
